Job summary

L3Harris Technologies in Greenville, Texas, is seeking a Specialist, Technical Writing to join the Technical Publications team. The role focuses on gathering, composing, and editing technical information to prepare flight and maintenance manuals for warfighters.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with four (4) years of technical publication authoring experience with structured authoring environments to include unstructured, and/or structured FrameMaker, Technical Publication.
• Graduate degree with two (2) years of technical publication authoring experience with structured authoring environments to include unstructured, and/or structured FrameMaker, Technical Publication.
• In lieu of a degree, minimum of eight (8) years of technical publication authoring experience with structured authoring environments to include unstructured, and/or structured FrameMaker, Technical Publication.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Gather, compose, and edit technical information to prepare flight manuals, maintenance manuals, and other documentation.
• Author IETMs, maintenance manuals, and flight operation manuals in an S1000D environment.
• Interpret engineering drawings, wire lists, schematics, and software requirements.
• Interviews with engineering personnel to ensure precision and MIL-compliant documentation.
• Work under supervision and potentially lead programs.

Education

Job Description

The Specialist, Technical Writing will be a part of the Technical Publications team, committed to providing quality and timely publication deliverables for commercial and government projects in a dynamic environment. The Specialist, Technical Writer is responsible for gathering, composing, and editing technical information to prepare flight manuals, maintenance manuals, and other technical documentation for our warfighters.

Essential Functions

• Prior experience authoring Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM), technical maintenance manuals, Flight Operation Manuals, and in an S1000D environment for Air Force programs.
• Working knowledge of or experience with Rivet Joint/Cobra Ball/Combat Sent Mission system architecture and mission profile. Working knowledge of KC-135 or RC-135 aircraft systems and operations
• Interpret engineering drawings, wire lists, schematics, hardware specifications, software requirements specifications, software interface control documents, test procedures.
• Conduct interviews with engineering personnel to ensure the technical documentation is precise, comprehensive, and meets professional/MIL standards.
• Works under general supervision and may be responsible for entire programs.
• Ability to clearly and succinctly communicate orally and in written form.
• Must be able to work well with colleagues, internal stakeholders, and external customers.
• Must be able to work within and potentially lead defined budgets and meet schedule deadlines.
• Strong computer skills with solid understanding of MS Office Suite and applications.
• Familiarity with S1000D Standard, Webex authoring, and Localized CSDB desired.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Clearance.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
