Job summary

UC Irvine's Department of Pediatrics seeks candidates for all levels of the Research Specialist series. Openings depend on extramural funding and PI contracts, with rank determined by qualifications and experience.

The roles span divisions including Adolescent Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Developmental & Behavioral, Endocrinology, and more; candidates should be self-driven with relevant research experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) or equivalent research experience for Junior Specialists.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) or five years of experience for Assistant Specialists.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of experience for Associate Specialists.
  • Doctoral degree (PhD/MD) or ten years of experience for Specialists; includes a strong research record.

Responsibilities

  • Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Perform research in the assigned specialization and contribute to ongoing projects.
  • Prepare CV and 3-5 references as part of the application requirements.

Position Overview

Salary range: A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000 - $194,800/annually. The hourly rate for this position is $26.35 - $93.30 hourly rate. See Specialist Series – Represented Fiscal Year

Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics anticipates openings for all levels in the research Specialist series.

The Division And Programs

Adolescent Medicine, Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Developmental & Behavioral, Endocrinology, Exercise Medicine, General Pediatrics, Genetics/Metabolic Disorders, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine, Neurology, and Pulmonary.

Positions are dependent on extramural funding and research contract of individual P.I.'s. The ideal candidate should be self-driven and motivated, with research experience in a specialization is strongly preferred. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Junior Specialists - A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.
  • Assistant Specialists - A Master’s degree (or equivalent degree), or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
  • Associate Specialists - A Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Associate Specialists are normally expected to have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
  • Specialists - A Doctoral degree (PhD/MD) (or equivalent degree) or ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Specialists at full rank are normally expected to have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in-press research in the field, professional recognition in the field, and a demonstrated record of University and/or public service.
