Job summary

The Specialist Quality Assurance role at South32 supports construction activities for the Processing Plant and Paste Plant at the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona. You will manage QA/QC for multiple contractors, ensure compliance with codes, and mentor QA/QC technicians in a busy field environment.

Ideal candidates have a technical degree in construction management, 3+ years of QA/QC experience on large mining or construction projects, and strong English communication.

Qualifications

• Technical Degree in Construction Management or related field, or equivalent trade qualification.
• 3+ years of QA/QC experience on large-scale mining and/or construction projects.
• Industrial construction experience preferred.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Strong safety leadership and ability to promote safety and operational excellence.
• Ability to read, interpret, and provide feedback on 2D and 3D drawings, designs, and specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assure code and procedural compliance for underground development and construction.
• Review contractors' and vendors' Quality Management Systems and perform audits.
• Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for specific work packages.
• Inspect and report on construction activities and vendor-supplied materials using plans, engineering reports, specifications, and other technical documentation.
• Assist contractors with implementation of corrective and recovery actions when NCRs are identified.
• Identify contractor performance issues and collaborate with contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve quality concerns.
• Review and provide input on construction designs and schedules as they relate to quality requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Ensure conformity with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with South32 change management processes.
• Ensure timely delivery of construction QA/QC services to internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the management of site construction contractors from a quality assurance perspective.
• Periodically review the Construction Management Execution Plan and recommend revisions to maintain quality compliance.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to QA/QC technicians.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Specialist Quality Assurance, supports the management of construction activities for the Processing Plant and the Paste Plant. Responsibilities include support of management of multiple contractors and subcontractors including: health, safety, security, environmental compliance, quality, planning, scheduling, reporting, community relations and meeting targets within budget and on time. This role requires heavy field interaction and interface with integrated construction teams. This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Assure code and procedural compliance for construction activities related to underground development and construction.
• Review contractors' and vendors' Quality Management Systems and perform periodic audits.
• Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for specific work packages.
• Inspect and report on construction activities and vendor-supplied materials using plans, engineering reports, specifications, and other technical documentation.
• Assist contractors with implementation of corrective and recovery actions when NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) are identified.
• Identify contractor performance issues and collaborate with contractors and internal stakeholders to resolve quality concerns.
• Review and provide input on construction designs and schedules as they relate to quality requirements.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
• Ensure conformity with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with South32 change management processes.
• Ensure timely delivery of construction QA/QC services to internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the management of site construction contractors from a quality assurance perspective.
• Periodically review the Construction Management Execution Plan and recommend revisions to maintain quality compliance.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Technical Degree in Construction Management or a related field, or equivalent trade qualification.
• Ability to drive a company vehicle and meet company insurability requirements.
• 3+ years of QA/QC experience on large-scale mining and/or construction projects.
• Industrial construction experience preferred.
• Experience working collaboratively with teams and interacting with customers.
• Proven track record of maintaining a safe work culture.
• Knowledge of ore processing facilities is an asset.
• Strong understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles, methodologies, and best practices.
• Ability to read, interpret, and provide feedback on 2D and 3D drawings, designs, and specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Demonstrated field safety leadership with the ability to promote safety and operational excellence.
• Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Strong relationship-building skills, including empathy, emotional intelligence, cross-cultural effectiveness, and the ability to build consensus and alignment.
• High standards of professional and ethical conduct.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills; Spanish language skills are an asset.
