Specialist- Processing (Equipment Trainer)

Department objectives for Process personnel:
- Develop team members to add value to the OceanaGold group and individuals within the team.
- Achieve or exceed production targets for gold production.
- Meet or beat budgeted costs.
- Improve safety and environmental performance.
- Increase production while reducing cost per tonne of ore through the mill.
- Increase mill throughput and utilization of the plant.
- Demonstrate and promote values at all times.
The plant specialist will perform duties to ensure plant personnel are trained and able to carry out their duties in the process plant. Responsibilities include:
- Help develop and lead the two-week onboarding process for new employees, including plant layout, circuit overviews, equipment locations, P&ID references, and operator responsibilities with emphasis on housekeeping.
- Ensure new operators can:
- Work safely and report unsafe conditions.
- Follow approved safety, health, and environmental rules and procedures.
- Regularly inspect the workplace and ensure tools and equipment are safe.
- Seek assistance when lacking skill or knowledge to perform a task safely.
- Report any conditions that may hinder safe or environmentally responsible work.
- Identify and address conditions that could cause injury or environmental harm.
- Consider the safety of co-workers and others in the processing area.
- Participate in incident investigations, safety programs, audits, and studies as required.
- Maintain housekeeping standards.
- Deliver hands-on and classroom training on equipment operation, processes, and systems.
- Develop, update, and deliver training curricula, lesson plans, and competency assessments.
- Create high-quality technical documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
- Design and deliver training materials for different audiences (operators, technicians, supervisors).
- Assess training effectiveness and implement improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, engineers, and safety teams to ensure current materials.
- Provide all task training for equipment used throughout the process plant, including onboarding and refresher training as needed.
- Manage equipment training records, both on paper and in the INX system (including 5000-23 forms).
A secondary role is to support the Permit to Work Officer in:
- Ensuring Permit to Work systems and procedures are in place and followed; provide input on maintenance, contractor, and operator training for compliance.
- Develop and maintain the Permit to Work System to minimize production impact while ensuring safety and environmental control.
- Manage plant cyanide code and prepare for audits every three years.
- Manage portable gas detection equipment (calibration, records, maintenance).
- Update and manage personnel training records in INX, including 5000-23s.
Other responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Represent the organization when dealing with contractors and coordinate resources.
- Lead ICAMs for the processing department with safety.
- Assist with annual process risk assessments for the plant.
- Attend trainings and perform other duties as required.
- Lead or facilitate training presentations.
- Identify areas for plant improvement.
- Support confined space safety, procedures, and compliance.
- Facilitate onboarding and process team trainings, delivering relevant safety information and procedural updates.

Minimum qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in plant operations (crushing, grinding, flotation, CIL, elution, and mobile equipment).
- Experience around mills, conveyors, pumps, and chemicals.
- Minimum 1 year in LOTOTO and Permit to Work systems in mining or similar industries, with a strong safety background and understanding of energy types and isolation procedures.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as an equipment trainer, with proven technical writing and curriculum development ability.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; PPE required in mine environments.
