Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in drug distribution tasks that do not require a pharmacist’s professional judgment, including preparing sterile products and chemotherapy, managing controlled substances, and other duties within the pharmacy.
  • Operate in accordance with written procedures under pharmacist supervision.
  • Read physicians’ orders, prepare and deliver medications, and manage drug supplies for patient-care units.
  • Accurately prepare medications, including unique dosage forms, and maintain all necessary records.
  • Perform inventory management, including replacing outdated medications and restocking supplies.
  • Label products correctly and perform arithmetic calculations for dosage determinations.
  • Assist in sterile preparation of IV medications and manage controlled substances.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in pharmacy areas.
  • Support training of pharmacy technicians.
Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

For West Virginia Pharmacy Techs
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • National certification (PTCB or EXCPT) and registration with the state Board of Pharmacy upon hire (except PA).
  • Or two years of pharmacy experience, with certification and registration within specified timeframes.
For Maryland Pharmacy Techs
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Maryland Board of Pharmacy upon hire.
  • Or two years of pharmacy experience, with certification and registration within specified timeframes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or post-high school education in a science field, or graduation from a pharmacy technician training program.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods.
  • Lift up to 30 pounds and push up to 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity to handle objects and reach.
