Westinghouse Electric Company LLC's WECTEC Staffing Services seeks a Safety Specialist to support field safety on Enbridge projects in Salt Lake City, UT. The role focuses on collaborating with partners to address safety issues and perform inspections, audits, and incident follow-up.

The position requires OSHA 30, excavation competence, First Aid/CPR, and 5+ years in health and safety (or a safety degree). It is an onsite, 1-year contract with compensation at $26.50 per hour.

Specialist of Safety

Responsibilities

• Responsible for collaborating closely with external partners and internal partners to address and resolve field safety issues while providing technical safety support and pipeline safety installation inspection duties on a needed basis.
• Regularly inspect area/regional construction projects and pipe installations, shadow pre-construction activities when applicable, damage prevention and work with contractor management/safety representatives in safe work execution.
• Conduct regular audits to support accurate compliance with Contractor Safety and Environmental expectations, in alignment with the Contractor Safety and Environmental Manual.
• Conduct and/or participate in area safety assessments, inspections, observations, and quality reviews.
• Support the construction arm and contractors in the completion of incident investigation requirements to include incident reporting, investigation, management committee reviews, corrective action monitoring.

This position will use their knowledge and skills to promote a positive health and safety culture in the workplace and will provide support to construction personnel in the implementation of safety plans for individual projects and/or tasks.

This position receives frequent direction from the supervisor, work is reviewed on a frequent basis, and the position consults with the supervisor frequently for Company or departmental vision clarifications.

This position collaborates with other staff in basic and intermediate functions of the specialty.

Duties may Include but are not Limited to:

• Work with the Company Safety Advisors, Company Inspectors and Superintendent of Construction to identify project risks.
• Monitor compliance of the contractor safety plan and project specific safety plan by performing and documenting on-site audits.
• Schedule regular audits with Contractor personnel and on in-progress construction jobs.
• Work closely with Contractor Safety Leads to mitigate on-site hazards and implement safe work practices.
• Work closely with team members to continually reinforce safe work practices.
• Work closely with Contractor to support and ensure the requirements of the projectspecific safety plan as well as all company policies and regulatory requirements are adhered to.
• Advise inspectors regarding the contractor safety plan and company policies.
• Clearly communicate Safety objectives to Contractors field staff.
• Verify project safety meetings are adequate and held as scheduled.
• Ensure all safety plans and programs are implemented, reviewed, and updated according to changes in regulations or process/policy/equipment.

Qualifications

• OSHA 30 hour
• Competent person (excavation) from an accredited learning organization
• First Aid / CPR trained and qualified
• Five (5) years of relevant Health & Safety work experience OR degree in safety and three (3) years of relevant Health & Safety work experience
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Good analytical skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting
• Experience using defined processes for managing Health & Safety risks
• Energy industry experience

Desired Qualifications

• HAZWOPER Certified
• Pipeline and or facilities construction experience

Notes

The physical requirements for this function include: Lift 50 pounds. Bend, stoop, and crawl. Ascend and descend ladders. Able to wear respirator and obtain Physician Written Opinion for respirator use. Stand for extended periods of time. Work in inclement weather (Hot, Cold, Rain), and valid Drivers License
