Job description

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join NHS Tayside’s Neuro and Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at Royal Victoria Hospital as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist.

You will work within a specialist neuro and stroke inpatient rehabilitation service, providing occupational therapy assessment and intervention to patients following the acute phase of stroke and other neurological conditions. The role is central to supporting functional recovery, goalorientated rehabilitation and complex discharge planning, working closely with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.

You will manage a varied and complex caseload, delivering skilled assessment and intervention focused on physical function, cognition, perception, fatigue and psychosocial needs to enable participation in daily activities and promote independence. Strong clinical reasoning is required to support rehabilitation planning, risk management and timely progression through the inpatient pathway, using a personcentred and evidencebased approach.

The post includes clinical leadership responsibilities, such as supporting junior staff and students, contributing to service development, and participating in quality improvement and professional development activity. You will work collaboratively within a wellestablished interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.

The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across the neuro and stroke pathway, providing opportunities to work within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to coordinated patient care. There is also potential to cross-cover different areas, allowing you to gain valuable experience across both acute and rehabilitation settings, supporting the development of a broad and versatile clinical skill set.

This role is suitable for an experienced Band 5 Occupational Therapist seeking to develop specialist neuro / stroke rehabilitation skills, or a Band 6 Occupational Therapist wishing to further consolidate their expertise within an inpatient rehabilitation setting. You will be supported by an experienced leadership team with a strong focus on supervision, learning and service improvement.

If you are passionate about neuro and stroke rehabilitation and motivated to support patients at a critical stage of recovery and adjustment, we would welcome your application.
