Job summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a metals strategy professional to solve complex client problems in metals markets, CAPEX evaluation, and due diligence. You will work on engagements, synthesize analyses, and help implement strategic changes within a global practice focused on AI and analytics in metals and mining.

You will collaborate with client teams, lead knowledge development, and grow expertise in operations, strategy, and digital analytics.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree with excellent academic record in metallurgical/related field; advanced degree a plus.
• 4+ years of metals market strategy, commercial due diligence, or CAPEX evaluation experience; expertise in steel, aluminum, or copper is helpful.
• Experience in data analysis and exploring new analytical approaches for strategic or operational improvement.
• Strong business awareness and industry knowledge; a proven performance track record.

YOUR IMPACT

You will leverage your industry knowledge and expertise within metalsmarket strategy, commercial due diligence, and/or capital project (CAPEX) to solve some of the most pressing and complex issues for clients. You will be staffed on client engagements and be responsible for identifying issues, forming hypotheses, designing and conducting analysis, synthesizing conclusions into recommendations and helping to implement change with our clients. Throughout an engagement, you will be involved in discussions and presentations with client team members and leadership. You will lead or contribute to knowledge development initiatives to expand our metals capabilities. You will develop and maintain a strong internal reputation and network with client teams, and will be "in the flow" of new external thinking to renew personal knowledge and expertise over time to remain at leading edge in the field. You will work as a team member on subjects ranging from strategy and operations, to conducting due diligence. Examples of the type of work include deploying AI and digital analytics to improve processes within the plant and working on operations topics to redesign processes of the plant. Your home base will be one of our East Cost office locations as part of our Metals team within our global Metals and Mining practice. Our Metals and Mining practice focuses on accelerating sustainable and inclusive growth by leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to shape client’s strategy, boost productivity and drive innovation.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

• Undergraduate degree with excellent academic record required, ideally in metallurgical engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely related field; advanced degree in similar field a plus
• 4+ years of relevant experience in metals market strategy, commercial due diligence, or capital project (CAPEX) evaluation; expertise in steel, aluminum, or copper is a plus
• Experience in data analysis and interest in developing new approaches to data analysis and application to strategic or operational improvement
• Outstanding performance track record and career development
• Strong business and industry acumen
• Excellent problem‑solving skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills in English, additional fluency in Spanish a plus
