Specialist - EHS-Aromair Health & Safety

Summary:
The EHS Specialist is responsible for supporting the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Department with the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of programs, ensuring compliance with company policies, federal, state, and local regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts accident and injury investigations and root cause analysis, and communicates findings to the appropriate departments and/or leadership.
- Develops and implements corrective/preventative actions that improve the safety and environmental conditions of the facility.
- Assists in job hazard and environmental assessments, and participates in the development and implementation of improved processes and procedures.
- Communicates and initiates improvements resulting from changing regulations.
- Conducts, assigns and participates in health & safety audits, including the development of and drafting of audit documentation, tracking corrective actions, and monitoring of trends.
- Maintains EHS databases, files and records; modifies and implements compliance tracking programs and recordkeeping systems.
- Assists Technical Trainers in the development of technical documents including EHS and Operational procedures, programs, job aides and training documents.
- Develops and conducts training on environmental and safety programs, policies and procedures.
- Provides routine reminders and training for site leaders on protocol and upward communication steps to be taken in the event of unannounced OSHA, EPA, Fire Department or other regulatory agency visit.
- Supports the EHS manager in responding to emergency situations during or after hours.
- Completes OSHA and worker’s compensation forms, accident and injury investigation reports, preliminary budgetary information, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and other paperwork according to established company policy.
- Maintains confidentiality of employee medical information, injury and accident information, financial information and other sensitive and confidential information.
- Exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of the normal schedule as needed due to workplace demands (e.g. supporting off-shifts). Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent degree required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in environmental, health and safety in a manufacturing environment.
- AAS in Environmental Technology or related field is strongly preferred.
- OSHA 30 hour certification, 40 hour HAZWOPER and RCRA and Hazardous Waste Management Certification is strongly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; FDA Good Manufacturing Practices and OSHA Safety Requirements; current industry and regulatory laws, guidelines and practices.
- Skill in solving problems; prioritizing work to ensure deadlines are met; managing, coaching and developing others; providing excellent customer service to internal customers.
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities; resolve difficult situations with no clear direction; adapt to change; develop and maintain good working relationships with others from a diverse background; develop and maintain processes and workflows; be detail-oriented; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group of individuals; present information to large and small groups; be organized and work quickly and efficiently with short deadlines; multi-task; read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions, including SOPs; work independently and as part of a team; operate a computer; wear required PPE as needed when walking through the facility; interpret, understand and apply local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental, health and safety; understand employee exposures, and air/waste/water compliance; evaluate environmental health and safety related risks; read blueprints, architectural, mechanical, and electrical documents; use test equipment, such as noise and gas detection equipment; develop and deliver EHS training material for various levels of personnel.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds manually.
- A climate-controlled office environment; the noise level is usually moderately quiet; however, must be able to work in a loud production environment for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer, stand, walk, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, push and pull.
- Exposure to frequent movement of motorized equipment throughout the facility, including electric pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
