Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a dedicated Dyslexia Specialist responsible for implementing a dyslexia intervention program for students. This full-time position is critical for providing the necessary resources and support for students with reading disabilities.

Qualifications

Job description

Position Summary

The Dyslexia Specialist will conduct the dyslexia intervention program for all dyslexia students. In addition, the Dyslexia Teacher will serve the student population as a formative phonetics resource to students struggling in reading fluency and early phonetic comprehension.

Qualifications
Education/Certification
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Special Education.
  • Valid grade‑level (EC‑6 or 4‑8 Generalist) or content‑area certification required for select positions.
  • Dyslexia Certification (preferred)
  • CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) (preferred)
Experience
  • 2+ years of dyslexia teaching experience in a public school (preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • A passion for students, especially those with reading disorders
  • Ability and patience to work interactively with students
  • Advanced knowledge of and compliance with federal and state dyslexia and reading disorder laws
  • Working knowledge of and compliance with individualized services for students
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization
  • Effective communication with all levels of students, parents, administrative staff, and campus directors
  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessment scoring, transcripts, and GPA
  • Ability to transition with the district, campus, and/or department changes
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and receive guidance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Apply knowledge of the interrelated components of reading across all developmental stages of oral and written language and demonstrate expertise in reading instruction from early childhood through grade 12.
  • Implement, model, and provide integrated literacy assessment and instruction using appropriate methods and resources to address varied learning needs.
  • Recognize how differing strengths and needs influence literacy development, applying knowledge of primary and second language acquisition, dyslexia, and reading disabilities.
  • Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate, research‑based reading/literacy curriculum; collaborate with stakeholders; and lead professional development programs.
  • Collaborate with general‑education teachers and administrators to provide dyslexia accommodations and services.
  • Ensure student IEPs are written and implemented appropriately.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly and use findings to improve dyslexia services.
  • Plan resources and materials to support general‑education teachers in achieving goals for students receiving dyslexia services.
  • Assist the campus administrator with the Response to the Intervention process.
  • Support campus student‑management policies and behavior‑management strategies for students with dyslexia.
  • Maintain open communication through conferences with parents, students, teachers, and administrators.
  • Recommend sound policies to improve the dyslexia program.
  • Perform special projects, work during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned. Travel may be required.

Salary range: $56,039 to $57,317. Position is Full‑Time.
