POSITION SUMMARY

The Specialist – Career Services helps Goodwill Industries of San Antonio program participants find and retain employment through job readiness and placement services. The Specialist – Career Services has oversight of a caseload and works as part of a team to help participants overcome barriers to success in employment. Services provided include assessments, job search goal setting, community resource connections and referrals, resume development, mock interviews, job leads and application assistance, workplace skills training, and connection to hiring employers. Goodwill adopts a high-touch engagement model and invests in building and maintaining robust client relationships to maximize impact.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Upholds and models Goodwill's mission, core values, and servant leadership philosophy.
  2. Provide excellent customer service by greeting, assisting, and responding to questions and concerns positively, professionally, and friendly manner. Maintain confidentiality of documentation and information received.
  3. Receive referrals from program staff for participants who are actively looking for work and ensure a seamless transition for participants.
  4. Conducts intake assessments of program participants to identify personal and professional goals and support participants in identifying and overcoming barriers to goal achievement.
  5. When appropriate, administer/ help participants perform interest/personality/skills assessments to determine clients’ interests and talents and recommend career paths.
  6. Develop an Individual Service Plan, led by the participant that clearly defines their career goals and links them to internal and external resources designed to help people overcome barriers to employment as defined in the assessment.
  7. Proactively consult active program participants regularly, providing encouragement and support, documenting updates on progress, ensuring all aspects of the individual service plan are implemented or modified as necessary, and providing guidance which may include service coordination to address barriers to career placement.
  8. Reviews and with the support of the Career Services Associate, prepares resumes and cover letters aligned with the identified career objective and educates program participants on how to submit a quality job application.
  9. Collaborate with the Community Relations Team, research job boards, and other sources to create high-quality job leads consistent with the participant’s interests, competency, and goals.
  10. Conduct mock interviews to build participants’ skills and confidence in the hiring process.
  11. Consult regularly with all active participants on caseload to provide encouragement and support, receive updates on progress and ensure that all aspects of the Individual Service Plan are implemented or modified as necessary until successful job placement.
  12. Be proactive in identifying barriers to participants successfully completing their goals and provide adequate encouragement, support, and guidance which may include financial assistance or service coordination to address basic needs such as transportation, childcare, healthcare, etc.
  13. Assist with the enrollment and/or delivery of job readiness training, as needed.
  14. Solicit participant feedback regarding satisfaction of services received. Solicit program completers for agency mission moments.
  15. Update and document the participants’ progress, through the Client Management System, in reaching objectives and goals, including activities, progress notes, job placement, and other required information.
  16. Support training and development by assisting with training activities, community and career fairs, and other outreach activities as needed.
  17. Conduct other activities, as necessary, to support the participants and team’s success.
  18. To accommodate business needs and objectives, other duties may be assigned by leadership.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of education.
  2. 1-3 years experience in case managing clients, in assisting clients in securing employment, in staffing and/or talent acquisition or other related fields.
  3. Career readiness, resume writing, or staffing a plus.
  4. Client services, case management, or employee recruitment a plus.
  5. Skilled in communicating verbally and writing effectively; skilled in organizing and presenting educational material.
  6. Experience in workforce development and community partnerships is preferred.
  7. Must maintain flexibility regarding work availability and hours to support program needs.
  8. Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
