Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Judicial Branch Forsyth County seeks an Assistant Clerk (NS) in the Special Proceedings Division. You will assist the Clerk with judicial authority, conduct hearings, issue orders, and manage probate-related tasks for estates and guardianships.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school preferred; active license to practice law in North Carolina.
• Professional experience in a courthouse or law office; 5+ years in Special Proceedings preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; ability to type 35-40 wpm.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Clerk in exercising all judicial powers as ex officio Judge of Probate and as a judicial officer of the Superior Court.
• Conduct evidentiary hearings and render judicial opinions with Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law.
• Preside over hearings and issue orders on foreclosures, guardianships, claims and deliveries, and other statutory proceedings.
• Process applications for probate of wills and codicils; appoint personal representatives for estates.
• Prepare letters of testamentary, administration, and guardianship; administer oaths and set bonds.
• Review annual and final accountings for accuracy; issue notices and orders to counsel.
