Primary Function / General Purpose of Position

The Special Procedures and Cath Lab Technologist will assist licensed practitioners in performing fluoroscopic, interventional, and neuro-interventional procedures using sterile techniques. They prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure, ensuring compliance with federal, state laws, regulations, and facility policies.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Perform high-quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, and venous systems, adhering to exam protocols unless clinical deviation is necessary.
  2. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and reduce anxiety.
  3. Contact referring physicians or other medical personnel for clarification if exam orders appear incorrect.
  4. Use the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, document preliminary reports, and record critical findings per department policy.
  5. Complete assigned tasks promptly and efficiently.
  6. Demonstrate behaviors aligned with the Mission and Values of Bon Secours Mercy Health and adhere to corporate standards, including compliance with laws and reporting unethical or unlawful acts.
  7. Follow safety, infection control, and patient confidentiality policies.
  8. Perform non-invasive vascular exams proficiently.
  9. Maintain knowledge of vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlate lab results with other hospital procedures.

Licensing / Certification
  • Certification and registration with ARRT or CCI are required.
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required prior to direct patient care; preferred upon hire.
  • ACLS certification is preferred.
  • Additional certifications in Cardiovascular-Interventional Radiography and Vascular-Interventional Radiology are preferred.
  • State licensure is preferred unless mandated by state law.
Education

Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited institute is preferred.

Work Experience

One year of radiology experience, including surgical experience with CR, is preferred.

Training

Experience with EPIC EHR and PACS systems is preferred.

Physical and Working Conditions

May involve exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, hazardous substances, body fluids, and infectious materials. Periods of interruptions are common.

Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, walking, standing, and manual dexterity, with specific frequency levels indicated.

Additional hazards include electrical shock, x-ray/electromagnetic energy, and exposure to radiation.
