GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing all Special Procedure and Cath Lab procedures in accordance with department policy and procedure as well as IDNS regulatory standards. Ensures compliance with all IEMA regulatory standards as applicable to Radiology and Radiation Protection for patients and staff in the area. Responsible for ensuring department patient schedule is complete and ensures daily reconciliation of Open Order Report.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities of a Special Procedures and Cardiac Cath Technologist. Performs diagnostic procedures according to established policy and procedure.
  • Administers IV contrast media in accordance with department policy and procedure.
  • Ensures that proper sterile techniques are applied appropriately to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Works directly with Radiologist in determining protocol for all special procedure imaging.
  • Works directly with Cardiologists to ensure proper coordination and delivery of Cardiac Cath Services.
  • Explains procedure to patient prior to procedure start. Provides patient and family with education for both pre and post procedure.
  • Observes patient for behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications. Notifies physician and Nurse with any status change.
  • Assists with the operation and handling of special equipment, monitors, and instruments.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work as a team member, assists physicians and assists on all levels of patient care inside the Lab. This includes but is not limited to circulator, scrub, transfers, patient escort, transportation of specimens to appropriate department, scheduling, ordering of supplies, etc.
  • Observes and documents patient data and procedure record throughout procedure with appropriate hemodynamics system. Records heart rate, BP, respirations, all pressures, O2 saturations, and EKG. Recognizes EKG rhythms and dysrhythmia.
  • Ensures patient and own safety by following all applicable radiation protection measures and requirements. Maintains safety regulations to ensure maximum protection to patients, staff, and employees of the hospital.
  • Maintains QC on equipment. Responsible for operation and safety of all equipment. Reports all equipment problems in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrates effective business conduct through behavior/performance example and by following HCH Performance Standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and follows all applicable HIPAA standards.
  • Maintains professional licensure and personal education through professional affiliations, meetings, and educational seminars.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors as assigned or needed to ensure services are delivered and performed according to hospital policy and procedure as well as industry standards.
  • In compliance with Holy Cross Hospital Attendance Standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed (or eligible) by the IDNS (Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety) – required
  • Registered (or eligible) by ARRT (RTR) – required.
  • CPR certification – Required.
  • BCLS certification - Required
  • ACLS certification – Preferred
  • Compliant with PPD requirements
