Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Special Procedure Technologist to assist in angiographic and interventional radiology procedures under physician supervision. You will prepare patients, operate fluoroscopy, and support cardiac catheterization labs.

Requirements include AMA Radiologic Technology or CVT, EKG, BLS, ACLS, and willingness to work three 12-hour day shifts per week with on-call duties near the hospital. RWJBarnabas Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology OR graduate of approved CVT school required.
• EKG Certification required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) through the American Heart Association required.
• Full Time availability to work three 12-hour shifts per week.
• Required to take call, including weekends and holidays.
• Must live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet required response time for on-call shifts.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for procedures and explain the process.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools.
• Assist physicians during angiographic and interventional procedures, scrubbing, circulating, or monitoring.
• Set up sterile trays and other equipment following aseptic technique, and handling of instruments.
• Operate and monitor equipment, and call out equipment readings.
• Position patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration.
• Scrub to assist with passage of catheters and guidewires.
• Alert the physician to changes in patient condition.
• Utilize ICVS and PACS systems and entering accurately identified and labeled images of patients.
• Retrieve old images and films, when necessary.
• Operate fluoroscopy equipment and maintain quality control.
• Calibrate, maintain, adjust, and operate equipment, computer, and applications necessary to ensure a safe and accurate diagnostic and interventional procedure.
• Report equipment failure or other problems to the appropriate support.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.

Special Procedure Technologist - RWJBarnabas Health

At RWJBarnabas Health, the Technologist plays a critical role in patient care and operational excellence. Under the direct supervision of a physician, the Technologist prepares patients for procedures and explains the process, operates diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools, and assists physicians in performing special radiology angiographic and interventional procedures to support cardiac and vascular care.

A typical day for a Technologist may include:

• Preparing patients for procedures and explaining the process.
• Operating diagnostic equipment and cardiac catheterization tools.
• Assisting physicians during angiographic and interventional procedures, to include scrubbing, circulating, or monitoring.
• Setting up sterile trays and other equipment following aseptic technique, and handling of instruments.
• Operating and monitoring equipment, and calling out equipment readings.
• Positioning patients for rapid sequence filming during contrast media administration.
• Scrubbing to assist with the passage of catheters and guidewires.
• Alerting the physician to changes in patient condition.
• Utilizing ICVS and PACS systems and entering accurately identified and labeled images of patients.

• Minimum 2 years Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology scrubbing and hemodynamic monitoring experience.
• National registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
• NJ Certified X-Ray Technologist (NJ CXT).
• Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
