Qualifications

Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine as a Special Procedures Nurse (SPN). In this role, you will support the Infusion Therapy Clinic in Hyde Park.

Eligible for a Sign on Bonus up to $5,000!

Under the direction of an attending physician or a licensed independent practitioner, the RN provides technically complex and high-risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories: sedation, intravenous infusions, complex procedures (e.g., lumbar puncture, cardiac catheterization). This may also include specialized monitoring during the procedure and recovery phase. The RN may have Charge Nurse responsibility for his/her assigned unit.

  • Upholds the Mission Statement of UCMC: to provide superior health care in a compassionate manner, ever mindful of each patient’s dignity and individuality.
  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
  • Performs a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for each sedation.
  • Provides patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; demonstrates knowledge of age-specific considerations in the provision of care.
  • Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter.
  • Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person.
  • Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive, and accommodating manner.
  • Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC.
  • Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios.
  • The RN is expert in assessing and treating and evaluating patient conditions specific to their work area.
  • RN maintains hospital required nursing & ICU unit specific competencies needed to provide proficient nursing care.
  • Contributes to the Patient Services Sector/Outpatient Services Sector offering constructive suggestions for change and participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing programs utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • RN uses nursing knowledge to anticipate and plan for patient care needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
    • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of chemotherapy administration experience preferred.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card.
  • Experience working in a research environment.
