Job description

Title:

Special Operations Performance Dietitian (10SFG, Fort Carson, CO) ***THIS POSITION IS ONSITE***

We are seeking a stellar Special Operations Performance Dietitian to provide guidance and counseling on nutritional practices that enhance recovery and optimize performance for special operations forces (SOF) personnel, primarily focusing on SOF Operators and Direct Combat Support personnel under the Preservation of the Force and Family (POTFF) contract. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Perform administrative and clinical duties within your scope of practice.
  2. Provide nutritional planning, counseling, and documentation guided by evidence-based peer-reviewed literature.
  3. Advise the chain of command on issues related to nutrition and performance nutrition.
  4. Work within your scope of practice, including ordering labs if applicable.
  5. Offer individual and group counseling on performance nutrition.
  6. Design and implement performance nutrition programs for SOF personnel in various settings, including Garrison, TAD/TDY, and deployed environments.
  7. Develop nutritional protocols and guidelines for rehabilitation and performance enhancement.
  8. Collaborate with the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator to implement new protocols and guidelines.
  9. Serve as an advisor on dining facility and galley nutrition, acting as a liaison between food service and command.
  10. Assist other regional SOF assets as required, with approval from the chain of command.
  11. Participate in meetings with POTFF staff and medical personnel as needed.
  12. Advise on supplementary nutrition, supplements, and performance-enhancing substances within the POTFF program.
  13. Ensure availability of educational materials and sports nutrition supplies.
  14. Assist with supply inventories and provide input on supply needs.
  15. Ensure equipment and facilities under your purview are safe and properly utilized.
  16. Maintain accurate records as required.
  17. Participate in in-service training and continuing education to maintain professional certification.
  18. Ensure 100% compliance with local command training requirements.
  19. Perform administrative duties, including record-keeping and participating in quality assurance functions.
  20. Participate in peer reviews as directed.
  21. Develop and distribute training materials as requested.
  22. Perform other tasks within your scope as assigned by the HP program Manager and/or Coordinator.
  23. Document all work, including encounters and referrals, in the Military’s Electronic Health Record and/or the HP Enterprise-wide database.
  24. Collect and report data as required.
  25. Proficiently utilize computers, software, and technology tools as needed.

Required Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. US Citizenship is required.
  2. Ability to obtain and hold a Secret Clearance.
  3. Master’s degree in Nutrition Science or a related field.
  4. Certification from the American Dietetic Association as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and a Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). CSSD certification may be waived initially but should be earned within six months of employment.
  5. Current and valid state certification/licensure.
  6. Ability to receive and maintain clinical practice privileges if required.
  7. At least 3 years of demonstrable experience as a Performance Dietitian with athletes at NCAA Division I, Olympic, professional, or SOF levels, or equivalent military experience within the last year.
  8. Fluent in English, both written and oral.
  9. Capable of meeting physical demands, including hiking over rough terrain and functioning in austere environments.
  10. Ability to lift loads up to 25 kilograms.
  11. Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) from the American Heart Association.

Desired Education/Experience/Skills/Training:

  1. Prior military or SOF experience.
  2. Certification as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
