Job summary

Horry County Schools is seeking a Special Needs School Bus Driver to supervise students on the bus, maintain schedules and transport safely. This position requires a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL), a current DOT physical, and School Bus Driver certification, plus compliance with PPT testing and state training.

The role includes enforcing safety, keeping records, and maintaining positive relations with students and parents.

Qualifications

• Must meet the NCLB requirements for a paraprofessional which includes one of the following: Minimum of 60 college credit hours or an Associate's Degree or Paraprofessional certificate
• At least 18 years of age
• Have a valid South Carolina Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with limited points
• Maintain a current DOT Physical as determined by the district
• Complete the state school bus driver training and receive a School Bus Driver's Certificate
• Pass the PPT behind-the-wheel tests and annual updates
• Existing licensed bus drivers must pass PPT during renewal and interim assessments
• Proof of American Citizenship or Employment Authorization

Responsibilities

• Keep accurate records, time sheets and mileage reports
• Control students in a firm and safe atmosphere with minimal discipline issues
• Cooperate with investigations of liability for state-owned buses
• Assist with pupil insurance coverage details
• Establish and maintain good relationships with students and parents
• Keep bus equipment clean inside and outside
• Drive bus safely following state and county guidelines
