Job summary

Denver Public Schools seeks a dedicated transportation assistant to safely move special needs students on assigned routes, complying with DPS, state, and local laws. The role involves assisting with boarding/unloading, equipment use, and clear communication with students and families.

This is an ongoing opening for the 2026–2027 school year. A Colorado driver’s license and CPR certification within 90 days are required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with special needs population preferred.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license required; CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with securement of students during boarding/unloading and correct equipment use.
  • Follow safety rules during bus operations, at stops and school drop-off locations.
  • Communicate with passengers and students.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure safety.
  • Assist with student pick-up/drop-off at neighborhood locations per policy.
  • Administer and maintain knowledge of first-aid procedures.
  • Coordinate with students and parents about routine transportation issues.
  • Supervise students and reinforce positive behavior and rules.
  • Clean bus daily as needed.
  • Monitor student safety during travel.
