Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is seeking a Transportation Assistant to support the Office of Transportation and Fleet Management Services. The role involves assisting students with transportation to and from school, ensuring proper securement in seats and wheelchair slots, and aiding drivers as needed.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and the ability to work with diverse student needs.

Qualifications

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to assist students with patience and understanding.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, parents and students.

Responsibilities

• Assist students on and off buses.
• Ensure students are properly secured in seats or wheelchair slots.
• Assist in controlling student behavior.
• Tend to the special needs and conditions of each student.
• Learn bus routes, schedules, and pickup points.
• Assist substitute drivers with directions.
• Keep abreast of route and bus stop changes and student day care arrangements.
• Assist drivers in maintaining a clean bus interior.
