Job summary

Fulton County Schools seeks a Transportation Assistant to support bus drivers and ensure the safety of students with special needs during loading, unloading, and transit.

You will assist with seating, secure wheelchairs and child restraints, participate in safety trainings, and communicate with staff and parents. No formal education is required, but training and CPR/First Aid are preferred.

The role requires physical stamina, ability to lift up to 40 pounds, and adherence to district policies.

Qualifications

• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately.
• Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with students and adults.
• Knowledge of child restraint systems used for transporting students with special needs is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists the driver with loading and unloading students, including using a mechanical lift for wheelchairs.
• Secures wheelchairs, mobility chairs, child restraint systems, and other equipment.
• Assists in developing emergency procedures and in emergency evacuation situations.
• Maintains surveillance of students with disabilities while on the bus and understands individual needs.
• Reports unsafe acts or conditions to the bus driver.
• Manages student behavior in accordance with Georgia laws and district policies.
• Communicates with school staff, parents, and the public.
• Attends safety meetings and trainings.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
