Job summary

White Bear Lake Area Schools seeks a dedicated Special Needs Child Care Assistant to support students with special needs enrolled in Extended Day Programs, which operate before and after school on weekdays from September through June. The role involves direct student support, behavior modeling, and collaboration with staff at multiple sites in White Bear Lake and Hugo.

Shift times are 2:00-5:30 PM with on-the-job training for first aid, CPR, child development, and working with special needs

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Moderate experience working with children.
  • AA/AS degree or 60 semester credits or competency portfolio or Parapro Test.
  • Background check must be completed successfully.

Overview

White Bear Lake Area Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Child Care Assistant to support students with special needs enrolled in Extended Day Programs, which operate before and after school on weekdays from September through June. These programs provide enriching opportunities that celebrate youth with diverse interests, talents, and perspectives.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to students with special needs during program activities in individual, small group, or large group settings.
  • Foster student engagement by modeling and encouraging appropriate behavior, communication, and participation.
  • Assist with adapting activities and environments to meet individual student needs.
  • Collaborate with staff to implement behavior support strategies and ensure student safety.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate observations to the Site Supervisor as needed.
  • Attend all required training and staff meetings to maintain compliance and support professional growth.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Moderate experience working with children.
  • Hold an AA/AS degree,
    • OR have completed 60 semester credits,
    • OR have an approved competency portfolio,
    • OR have passed the MN Paraprofessional Assessment (Parapro Test).
  • Successful completion of background check.
Salary and Benefits
  • Starting at $22.91/hour.
