Job summary

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories (CEL) is seeking a Special Inspector to join our Salt Lake City, UT team. The role involves performing inspections and tests on construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specs, and building codes.

Responsibilities include reviewing documents, inspecting reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, soils, and foundations, and communicating findings to project stakeholders. Occasional travel and outdoor work are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of experience in testing and inspection.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and engineering reports.
• Valid driver''s license.
• ICC Special Inspector Certification(s) - Reinforced Concrete or Structural Masonry preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple inspection assignments.
• Attention to detail and good observational skills.
• Solid understanding of construction and testing and inspection industries.

Responsibilities

• Perform special inspections in accordance with project specifications and applicable building codes.
• Inspect structural elements such as reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, soils, and foundations.
• Verify construction materials, installation methods, and workmanship meet project requirements.
• Review construction documents, structural drawings, and inspection requirements prior to site visits.
• Document inspection activities and prepare detailed daily inspection reports.
• Identify deficiencies or non-compliant work and communicate findings to contractors, engineers, and project managers.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation meets regulatory requirements.
