Job summary

Winchester Public Schools, Virginia, is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant to support students with high needs in an inclusive setting at John Handley High School.

Reporting to the principal and classroom teacher, you will assist in small groups, supervise during lunch, and help complete essential paperwork, while ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Must meet one of the following: two years of college (48 credits) or an associate's degree or have passed Parapro Assessment
• Proof of highly qualified certification must be attached to your application

Job Description

Summary: Primary responsibility is providing assistance to students receiving special education services in an inclusion classroom. As directed by the principal and classroom teacher, the teaching assistant will also: work with individual or small groups of students in an instructional capacity, supervise students during other activities such as lunch, and assist in completing necessary paperwork.

Qualifications: Applicants must meet the requirements for a Title I paraprofessional, including:

Must have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and

Must have met one of the following options:

• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 credit hours); or
• Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree; or
• Have passed the Parapro Assessment through ETS.
• Proof of highly qualified certification must be attached to your application to be considered for this position.

Salary:

Range for 2026-2027 is $19.57 to $30.14 per hour plus full benefits package.

Workday: Full time/10 month (183 days) position, 7 hours per day
