Job summary

Great Hearts Academies seeks a Special Education Teaching Assistant for the Upper School at Prairie View to support students in general and special education settings. The role works under certified teachers to adapt materials, reinforce SDI concepts, and assist with behavior management in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities include academic support, social skills development, transitions, and occasional clerical tasks.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or higher.
  • Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • ParaPro certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in small groups or 1:1 with assignments.
  • Modify materials and provide accommodations to help learning.
  • Reinforce classroom rules and SDI concepts.
  • Monitor behavior and assist with de-escalation as needed.
  • Assist with personal hygiene, mobility, and equipment needs.
  • Attend meetings and training; maintain an organized workspace.

Position Title: Special Education Teaching Assistant (Upper School)Location: Great Hearts Prairie View Upper School (9001 NW Hwy 287Ft. Worth, TX 76131)Reports To: HeadmasterFLSA Status: Hourly, Non-ExemptThe Special Student Services - Teaching Assistant is a non-certified assistant to the Special Education Program at the academy for both general education and special education resource classrooms. The assistant will work to support students in all settings n campus under the direction of and in collaboration with the certified Special Education teachers and General Education teachers. Some locations (e.g. Title I schools) may require assistant teachers to have an AA, 60 hours of college credit, or be able to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.Required/Preferred Experience: Has experience in special education.Required/Preferred Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, and an interest in reading great books. Educational Aide certification I, II, or III preferred.Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.US Work Authorization requiredEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.This description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions.
