Special Education Teachers (SY 2025-2026)

CDCPS seeks passionate Special Education Teachers (also known as Learning Specialists) with outstanding academic backgrounds to work with our school teams, renowned for closing the achievement gap. CDCPS manages multiple campuses across Lawrence, MA, serving 1,200 pre-kindergarten to 8th-grade students. We provide a rigorous, student-centered academic program while supporting students' social, emotional, and holistic well-being. Our dedicated teams ensure our teachers' success.

Community Day Charter Public School (CDCPS) Special Education Teachers advocate, develop, monitor, and guide students with special needs to ensure their success inside and outside the classroom. Learning Specialists believe that all students can succeed with proper scaffolds. They offer holistic support while maintaining high expectations. As part of the Student Support Team, Learning Specialists also provide consultation services to staff to foster student growth.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Provide one-on-one, pull-out, and small group instruction, supporting inclusion classrooms and differentiating instruction based on students' IEPs.
  • Maintain and adhere to daily activity schedules.
  • Modify, accommodate, and differentiate instruction collaboratively with classroom teachers.
  • Observe students and provide feedback.
  • Conduct evaluation testing and gather academic data.
  • Write goals for IEP meetings, maintain logs, and conduct ongoing assessments.
  • Write progress reports and clerical notes related to IEPs, 504 Plans, or regular education plans.
  • Serve as case managers for students with IEPs.
  • Assist incoming IEP students.
  • Collaborate with families, teachers, SST, and the Special Education Team to develop and implement 504 Plans and IEPs with appropriate accommodations.
  • Participate in annual reviews and re-evaluations, providing input for students involved in three-year re-evaluations.
  • Attend parent conferences and SST meetings; lead IEP meetings as needed.
  • Participate in other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred.
  • Valid Massachusetts Moderate Disabilities Teaching License (PreK-8 or 5-12).
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred.
  • Strong collaborative planning, problem-solving, communication skills.
  • Flexibility, patience, and a good sense of humor.
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate strategies.
