About This Role

Instruct neurodivergent students in academic subjects using neurodiversity-affirming techniques that cater to their unique learning styles. This includes utilizing phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition to reinforce learning and meet the varying needs of students. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing or implementing strategies to support students with different learning styles. Accurate and complete student records must be maintained in accordance with laws, district policies, or administrative regulations.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive instructional plan that promotes inclusive learning for students in grades 2-5.
  • Create and adapt the general elementary education curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with learning differences.
  • Prepare classrooms with diverse materials and resources to facilitate exploration, manipulation, and learning.
  • Establish and enforce a positive behavior management system that promotes a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Provide assistive devices, technology, and accommodations to ensure equal access to facilities and opportunities.
  • Evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health to inform instruction and support.
  • Cultivate a growth mindset in students by encouraging them to take risks, explore new challenges, and persevere through difficulties.
  • Collaborate with parents, educators, and professionals to develop individualized educational plans (IEPs) that address students' academic, physical, and social needs.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians to keep them informed about their child's progress and provide guidance on community resources.
  • Supervise and guide teachers and teacher assistants to ensure they are meeting the requirements of the special education program.
  • Teach students essential life skills, such as goal setting, independence, and self-advocacy, to prepare them for future success.
  • Set clear learning objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and ensure students understand their role in achieving these goals.
  • Provide guidance and support to students who face academic, social, or emotional challenges.
  • Plan and conduct lessons that promote inquiry, experimentation, and critical thinking, and provide students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan that evaluates student progress and informs instruction.
  • Teach students daily living skills that promote independence and self-sufficiency, such as hygiene, safety, and food preparation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop, evaluate, and revise elementary school programs that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Plan and coordinate lessons with other teachers to promote learning and ensure coherence across the curriculum.
  • Monitor and supervise students as they use equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
  • Administer and grade assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Organize and display student work in a way that is accessible and engaging for students with diverse learning styles.
  • Stay current with best practices and research in education by attending professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Interpret the results of standardized tests to identify student strengths and areas for support.
  • Plan and supervise experiential learning activities that promote physical, mental, and social development, such as class projects, field trips, and guest speakers.
