Job summary

State of Florida, through the Florida Department of Corrections, seeks a SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER at Union Correctional Institution. The role involves delivering special education services to students with disabilities, developing IEPs, and coordinating transition planning within a correctional education setting.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for a Florida educator certificate, pass the ESE exam within 12 months, and meet certification requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
• Possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate or if applicable a temporary State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
• Successful applicants will be issued a Florida Department of Corrections CTE Temporary Educator’s Certificate with 5 years to obtain the Educator’s Professional Certificate.
• Must pass the Exceptional Student Education (K12) Subject Area Exam within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide special education services and teach academic subjects to students with disabilities in a correctional facility.
• Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and conduct IEP meetings.
• Coordinate transition planning and referrals with institutional staff and external agencies.
• Deliver specialized instruction and support accommodations and progress monitoring.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain ESE endorsement.
