Job summary

The Washtenaw Intermediate School District seeks a Teacher of Students with Severe Multiple Impairments to deliver an instructional program for students in the assigned classroom and coordinate support staff.

You will prepare daily lesson plans aligned to Michigan benchmarks and IEPs, participate in MET and IEPT meetings, implement health procedures and behavior supports, and maintain records while collaborating with families and district staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s Degree.
• Must be able to implement Speech, OT and PT plans as directed by ancillary staff.
• Demonstrated successful student teaching experience - required; two years of experience - preferred.
• Must be able to provide medical care under supervision of RN.
• Experience with computer instruction and technology.
• Knowledge and awareness of community agencies and services.
• Demonstrates ability to demonstrate initiative and understanding in working with students, staff and parents/guardians.
• Demonstrates ability to work creatively and skillfully with students.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area.
• Assesses students' achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet individual educational needs.
• Implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and strategies for students assigned to the classroom.
• Participates in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings and prepares reports for assigned students.
• Participates in Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings and prepares draft/proposed IEPs based on individual student needs.
• Maintains accurate attendance, student records and appropriate reports.
• Prepares and implements daily lesson plans using District approved curriculum that meets the State of Michigan benchmark standards and consistent with each student’s IEP.
• Documents student progress using assessment tools.
• Confers with parents, paraprofessionals, related service providers and administration regarding student educational progress.
