Job summary

Washtenaw Intermediate School District is seeking a Teacher of Students with Severe Cognitive Impairments to oversee instructional programs for students in the assigned area and coordinate support staff.

The role requires a Michigan teaching certificate with cognitive impairment endorsement, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and adherence to district policies. Starting salary is commensurate with experience and district guidelines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s Degree.
• Demonstrated successful student teaching experience - required; two years preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to provide medical care under supervision of an RN -required.
• Experience working with computer instruction and technology.
• Skills and desire to work in a collaborative team with others.
• Knowledge and awareness of community agencies and services.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
• Provides and coordinates the instructional program for students in the assigned area of responsibility.
• Assesses students' achievement and develops instructional strategies to meet individual needs.
• Implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and strategies for students in the classroom.
• Participates in IEP/IEPT meetings and prepares draft IEPs based on student needs.
• Maintains accurate attendance and student records.
