Job summary

Wayzata Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher for Greenwood Elementary School to support students in a cross-categorical design with IEP-driven instruction. The 1.0 FTE position starts ASAP, serving Federal Setting 1-3 in a dedicated classroom.

You will collaborate with general education staff, paraprofessionals, and district specialists, updating IEPs and maintaining records while fostering positive student outcomes in a supportive school community.

Qualifications

  • Special Education Licensure required for working with students in Federal Setting 1-3.
  • Multiple licensure preferred.
  • Ability to design and implement specially designed instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of students requiring special education services.
  • Experience and willingness to work on general education teams and provide collaborative special education services with general education teachers.
  • Ability to collaborate with paraprofessionals and to effectively direct the work delegated to them.
  • Interest in and ability to relate well to secondary students.
  • Experience with evaluation and eligibility determination for special education services preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches students basic skills based on intellectual, social, physical, and emotional needs of students as determined by their IEP.
  • Provides individual and small group instruction that addresses students identified needs in math, reading, spelling, vocational education, social, self-help, communication.
  • May assist students with personal needs, i.e. being lifted, feeding, toileting, and ambulation.
  • Confers with parents and program staff members on students' progress and update IEPs at least annually.
  • Confers periodically with district specialists such as psychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, program specialists, mental health, and outside personnel with regard to student welfare.
  • Maintains appropriate student records as required.
  • Provides a selected physical environment to establish and reinforce positive pupil behavior, attitudes, and social skills.

Compensation Range: $52,308-$123,452 (Depending on Education and Experience)

Position Description:

Wayzata Public Schools is currently seeking a Special Education teacher with the ability, skills, and training necessary to work with a broad array of students with disabilities in a cross-categorical model, such that they can receive an appropriate education program in their neighborhood school.
