Job summary

The Newark Board of Education invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Teacher of Special Education—Learning/Language Disabilities, Mild/Moderate. This role focuses on delivering inclusive instruction to students with diverse needs and supports a collaborative school community.

Candidates must hold a New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate, CE, or CEAS as required, and a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Certificate or CE or CEAS as deemed necessary by NJDOE certification resources.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students.
• Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and prepares progress reports.
• Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills and other general elements of the course of study.
• Provides individual, small, and/or large group instruction to adapt curriculum for varied abilities.
• Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for a productive environment.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time for a balanced program.
• Supervises out-of-classroom activities and coordinates aides and paraprofessionals.
• Communicates with parents and pupil personnel staff on student progress.
