We are looking for a dedicated Special Education Teacher/Learning Specialist who is committed to creating a trauma-informed educational environment to support a small classroom (7-9 students) with diverse learning needs. This position entails understanding the significant impact that trauma can have on learning and behavior, and implementing effective strategies to help students who have experienced trauma. The ideal candidate will foster a safe and inclusive environment, prioritizing each student's emotional and social development.
The Special Education Teacher/Learning Specialist will be responsible for developing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs. By recognizing that every student's experience with trauma is distinct, the teacher will provide personalized support to focus on student strengths and capabilities. This individualized approach is essential for promoting resilience and fostering academic success.
Building strong, trusting relationships with students is at the heart of trauma-informed teaching. The selected candidate will prioritize relationship-building to create a sense of safety and stability in the classroom. This relational focus is crucial for addressing students' emotional needs and supporting their overall well-being.
Collaboration with other professionals, such as school counselors and social workers, will also be a significant aspect of this role. The Special Education Teacher/Learning Specialist will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive support to students, ensuring that all aspects of their emotional and educational needs are met.
JOB GOALS:
Support and consult with the classroom teacher regarding ways to modify instruction and materials for students with learning disabilities and other handicapping conditions.Provide specially designed instruction to assist students in the acquisition of skills and knowledge necessary to achieve the goals of the Individual Education Plan (IEP), as well as the State Benchmark Standards.Ensure that all district, state, and federal guidelines regarding pre-referrals (SST), referrals, testing, recordkeeping, and service delivery for students with disabilities are strictly followed.Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Holds a valid Oregon Teaching license with a Handicapped Learner or other appropriate endorsements.Successful teaching experience.Understands the instructional and assessment requirements necessary to assist students in reaching the content and performance standards as established by Oregon's Educational Act For The 21st Century.Knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction.Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods.Possesses functional computer literacy, knowledge of word processing and an understanding of how computers can assist instruction.Maintains satisfactory attendance as defined in District policy and regulations.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides especially designed instruction which focuses on the individual needs of the student and the achievement of the state content and performance standards.In preparation for instruction, addresses both short- and long-term learning goals. Shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.Provides developmentally appropriate learning experiences.Works cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students with disabilities assigned to their rooms. Assists in the diagnosis and instructional planning for identified students, monitors the I.E.P. and makes specific recommendations to teachers regarding the need for adaptations and modifications in instructional strategies and materials.Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.Uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to diagnose and monitor student progress and achievement of the instructional objectives.Consults with, trains, and monitors Instructional Assistants regarding the academic and behavioral goals of the students with disabilities.Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records regarding the pre-referral process, referrals, testing, I.E.P. decisions, I.E.P. files and a census of identified students as required by law and district policy.Maintains professional confidentiality concerning individual student data and achievement.Frequently communicates to students and parents the level of student achievement towards achieving the I.E.P. goals and state standards.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment. Notifies and involves parents/guardians regarding a student's behavior as outlined in school and District policies.Takes all reasonable precautions to provide a safe, secure learning environment.Maintains a high level of professional integrity by adhering to the Teacher Standards and Practices requirements for an Ethical Educator, (as written in the Staff Handbook) as well as Board Policy and State Law.Participates in various meetings (e.g. staff, team, SST, IEP, parent conferences, in-service training, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information or sharing expertise.Performs such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or Administration.CERTIFICATES,LICENSES,REGISTRATIONS,BONDING,AND/ORTESTINGREQUIRED:
