Position Title: Special Education Teacher - LBD

Responsible To: Principal, Director of Special Education

Basic Function: To help special needs students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible citizens. This employee designs and implements instruction for students with disabilities in Fleming County Schools. The employee is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating individual educational programs for students based on individual student needs and the goals and objectives of the Fleming County Board of Education and administration.

Performance Responsibilities

1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
4. Prepare for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
5. Encourage student to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
6. Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
7. Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
8. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
9. Communicate with parents, students, outside agencies and other professionals.
10. Develop IEPs for students that comply with FCS and KDE regulations and guidelines.
11. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
12. Maintain student caseload in regard to compliance with IEP development and three year re-evaluations, communication and consultation with other teachers and related service providers (e.g., student accommodations, modifications, etc.) .
13. Gather ongoing instructional and behavioral data.
14. Plan and adjust daily instructional and behavioral programs based on data.
15. Assesse student progress and report to parents, at minimum, through IEP progress reports as specified in IEP.
16. Requisition material and equipment and perform other clerical tasks required.
17. Implement instruction and behavior management.
18. Facilitate IEP meetings for caseload students using established FCS meeting protocol.
19. Function as a member of a professional team.
20. Carry out transition activities with parents and other professionals.
21. Use appropriate IEP software effectively.
22. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
23. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
24. Maintain regular attendance.
25. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor, program director, or superintendent.

• Federal, state and local regulations, policies and procedures of Special Education Due Process
• Student Information System/IEP software (Infinite Campus)
• Evaluation Instruments & eligibility criteria
• Progress Monitoring, Data Collection & Analysis
• Specialized methodology for teaching students with disabilities (academic & behavior strategies)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher

Valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate for Teacher of Exceptional Children, LBD

Successful experience working with special needs students or in a special needs classroom setting, preferred

Salary and work year to be established by the board of education.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for certified personnel.
