Special Education Teacher (ISEC)
Description
Assist students in remedying academic and behavioral delays; consult with school staff regarding appropriate behavioral/academic interventions for students in regular education and special education for students requiring special education services. Self‑contained classroom.
Qualifications
- License: Required – Illinois Professional Educators License with LBS‑1 Endorsement registered in Lake County
- Education: Required – Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience: Required – Prior teaching experience or student teaching experience.
Preferred: Experience with educational life skills teaching, low incidence population and behavior planning; ability to collaborate with team of providers and organize a system of communication; fluency in Spanish.
Essential Performance Abilities
- Command of subject matter and effective implementation of Woodland District 50 curriculum including RtI and Common Core State Standards.
- Contribution to a positive school climate through support of the district’s Strategic Plan and PBIS program.
- Ordering materials and supplies per district procedures, with appropriate authorization and within budgetary constraints.
- Cooperative work with other staff members and paraprofessionals to meet student needs.
- Instruction of assigned classes in locations and at times assigned.
- Maintenance of control over school‑owned property and management of equipment repair.
- Collaboration with appropriate school personnel regarding specialized interventions and RtI support.
- Regular communication with parents and school personnel regarding student progress.
- Organization of daily lesson plans and preparation of educational materials.
- Use of diverse instructional techniques and differentiation to meet individual student needs.
- Adherence to the Woodland School District 50 Staff Handbook.
- Attendance at IEP meetings, parent meetings, problem‑solving team meetings, etc.
- Selection of learning content aligned with curriculum and IEP, providing necessary modifications and accommodations.
- Development and monitoring of measurable IEP goals and objectives.
- Implementation of appropriate IEPs in accordance with state and federal statutes.
- Adaptation of teaching methods and instructional materials to meet student needs, interests, and abilities.
- Utilization of technology and assistive technology in classroom activities.
- Creation of a classroom environment conducive to learning for students of varying disabilities.
- Provision of classroom management and consistent behavioral interventions.
- Preparation of written evidence of class preparation upon supervisor request.
- Implementation of district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals.
- Maintaining accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law and district policy.
- Assistance in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Availability to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside instructional day when necessary.
- Planning and supervision of purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers.
- Professional development participation to maintain competence.
- Prompt completion of duties with professionalism.
- Collaboration with parents to enhance child benefits from the educational environment.
- Use of RTI model for data review, academic need assessment, goal setting, and intervention implementation.
- Establishment and maintenance of pupil conduct standards aligned with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS.
- Maintenance of up‑to‑date records of student attendance, projects, and grades.
- Administration of state and local standardized tests and interpretation of results.
- Participation in team, department, faculty meetings, and professional development.
- Continuous update of instructional plans and activities.
- Adherence to all school and district policies, including confidentiality.
- Assumption of other duties as assigned by relevant district personnel.

Terms of Employment
Full‑time, 180 days as defined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range
BA/Step 1: $42,411 – MA+45/Step 8: $59,249. Based on experience and education as defined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
