Job summary

Gestalt Community Schools in Tennessee seeks a Special Education teacher to create flexible programs that support students with disabilities within inclusive classrooms. You will implement individualized education programs, collaborate with families and multidisciplinary teams, and maintain student records in compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

• Holds a current TN teaching license in Special Education or Interventionist with endorsement codes.
• Have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Proven track record of academic success as evident in TVAAS, state assessments, and value-added data (Preferred).
• Hold the belief that all students can learn at high academic levels.
• Uses digital content, technology integration, and project-based learning in a highly proficient manner.
• Have the ability to work in an extended day environment.
• Have the ability to teach in an inclusion environment with a co-teacher.
• Good communication and written skills required.
• A team player with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve development of sensory–perceptual–motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
• Instruct students in academic subjects using phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition to meet learners' needs.
• Teach socially acceptable behavior per IEPs using a positive behavioral support system.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities using various instructional techniques and technologies.
• Plan and conduct balanced instruction with activities that encourage observation and inquiry.
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and learning environment.
• Meet with parents to discuss progress and determine IEP priorities.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and others to develop IEPs.
• Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports as required by laws and policies.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Develop plans for communication, monitoring, and follow-up in inclusive settings.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed for students.
• Assist in data collection for appropriate classroom interventions.
• Serve as a multidisciplinary team member as appropriate.
• Assist in data preparation for local, state, and federal reports.
• Maintain professional competence via staff development and curriculum meetings.
• Responsible for compliance and reporting obligations for scholars and assigned location; and,
• Perform related work as assigned.
