Job summary

Futures School in West Hartford, CT seeks a Special Education Teacher to deliver IEP-based instruction toward high school graduation and measurable transition outcomes. You will work with the Director of Education to monitor progress, coordinate with families, and guide teaching assistants across school and community settings.

The role requires a master’s in special education, CT endorsement, PMT certification, and a CT driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must have a Master’s degree in special education.
• Connecticut Comprehensive Special Education endorsement required (#165, #065, or #265).
• PMT certification or eligible to obtain it; willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR.
• Valid Connecticut driver’s license and eligibility for public passenger endorsement.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver differentiated, IEP-based instruction aligned with CT standards and graduation requirements.
• Develop lessons across classroom, vocational, community-based, social-emotional, and independent-living settings; participate in PPT meetings.
• Monitor progress, maintain records, and prepare progress reports for families and districts per IEP timelines.
• Implement accommodations, transition services, BIPs, and behavioral supports with fidelity.
• Coordinate with families, LEAs, service providers, job coaches, employers, and adult-service agencies; supervise teaching assistants.
• Transport students in an authorized vehicle to community-based instruction and vocational activities when credentialed.
• Maintain supervision and follow confidentiality, mandated reporting, health, safety, and transportation procedures.
