Job summary

AACTE in New York seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students with brain-based and other intellectual and developmental disabilities in a classroom setting (ages 3–21). You will design engaging lessons and provide instructional and behavioral support.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities in NYS or eligibility.
• Bachelor’s degree in education with pursuing master’s in NYS program (or equivalent).
• Two years of experience in childcare, social services, healthcare or school-based settings.

Responsibilities

• Oversees a classroom of students with I/DD and implements instructional plans.
• Prepares lessons and provides instructional/behavioral support.
• Collaborates with school therapy teams and applies therapy recommendations.
• Documents annual goals, progress reports, and participates in IEP meetings.
• Communicates with parents regularly and involves them in progress.
• Supervises paraprofessionals and supports classroom staff.
• Uses multisensory approaches to build literacy, numeracy and life skills.
