Job summary

Qualifications

  • Valid Arkansas certification in Special Education.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education programs for students with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the needs of individual students.
  • Determine students' strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop behavior management programs for individual students as needed.
  • Maintain and utilize data collection to monitor and analyze student progress.
  • Develop an individual education plan for each student based on assessment data.
  • Utilize instructional strategies to implement IEPs.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Counsel students on academic, personal, social and career improvement.
  • Ensure that substitute has information for effective instruction.
  • Plan and direct learning activities of students.
  • Prepare and follow effective lesson plans.
  • Train and supervise para-educators and volunteers.
  • Follow district guidelines for programs for students with disabilities.
  • Participate as a team member in all aspects of a student's program.
  • Assist in development of school and district curriculum.
  • Supervise students in corridors, restrooms, lunchrooms and on grounds per policy.
  • Enforce school regulations at all times.
  • Participate in in-service programs.
  • Maintain records for pupil accounting, progress, inventories.
  • Check attendance and report absences.
  • Submit required special education reports and progress reports.
  • Sponsor clubs and activities equitably.
  • Inform parents about the education program regularly and involve them as part of the team.
  • Schedule and complete required paperwork for evaluations and conferences.
  • Attend and participate in evaluation conferences.
  • Take responsibility for issued materials and equipment.
  • Maintain special education files.
  • Know applicable federal/state regulations for students with disabilities.
  • Know Board policies and district guidelines and adhere to them.
  • Other duties as assigned.
