Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curricula, documenting progress, addressing individual educational needs, and creating a safe, flexible learning environment. Provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress and goals.

Essential Functions
  • Develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and policies regarding student identification, progress monitoring, and IEP implementation.
  • Assist students and staff in implementing IEPs and behavior plans.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and organizations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to adapt instruction and curriculum.
  • Coordinate and provide feedback to paraeducators.
  • Engage parents in students' education and communicate effectively with them.
  • Create a safe and engaging classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, adapting as needed.
  • Assess student learning and modify instruction accordingly.
  • Participate in professional development and learning communities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student achievement and attendance.
  • Evaluate and participate in curriculum development and faculty meetings.
  • Select and manage instructional materials and supplies.
  • Supervise students during activities outside the classroom, including transportation, lunch, and recess.
  • Administer standardized tests as per district guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain reliable attendance.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • License issued by Iowa BoEE for special education teaching.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, pedagogy, and differentiation.
  • Understanding of special education laws and best practices.
  • Proficiency with data systems and analysis.
  • Technological proficiency.
  • Organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and engage in self-evaluation.
Additional Requirements
  • Travel to district buildings and meetings.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting and mobility tasks.
Working Conditions

Varies from occasional to constant physical activity and environmental conditions, including indoor settings, temperature extremes, and district office hours.

Note: Teachers rehired within 3 years or who have received a sign-on bonus previously may have repayment obligations or ineligibility for future bonuses.
