    Job Summary:

    The special education teacher of students with a cognitive impairment provides an optimal learning environment for students who require the specialized teaching and supports designed for cognitive disabilities in order to increase the academic, behavioral, communication and social skills of the students on their caseload. Teachers in this position address students' specific needs through multiple and diverse academic and behavioral supports or strategies and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

    Salary & Benefits:

    Teacher Salary Schedule + $3,000 Hiring Bonus (contingent upon grant funding)
    Health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance. Employees shall be subject to the co-payment of health care costs equal to the difference between the premium cost and the annual cost limitation imposed on public employers.

    Education:

    Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with a Cognitive Impairment (SA) endorsement.

    Skills / Abilities:

    • Willingness and ability to work cooperatively on a teaching team.
    • Knowledge of disabilities and their educational implications.
    • Ability to write, implement, and monitor IEPs.
    • Understanding of curriculum design and instructional strategies.
    • Ability to integrate technology into instruction and the curriculum.
    • Knowledge of learning theories and child development appropriate for the various disabilities.
    • Ability to use data to design and develop interventions, and to monitor progress toward specific goals and objectives.
    • Knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations.
    • Understanding of due process and data privacy requirements.
