Job summary

Richmond Public Schools is seeking a Teacher - Exceptional Education (Adapted Curriculum) for an Elementary School placement. You will develop, implement, and monitor IEPs, collaborating with general education staff, families, and specialists to provide high-quality instruction within an adapted curriculum.

The role requires Virginia licensure or eligibility in adapted curriculum or severe disabilities, plus experience in autism and intellectual disabilities.

Qualifications

• Licensed to teach in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible for licensure in special education with an endorsement in adapted curriculum or severe disabilities.
• Three years of experience teaching students with autism, intellectual disabilities, or other low-incidence disabilities.
• Three years of experience collaborating with parents and teams to discuss student progress and program planning.

Responsibilities

• Communicate the mission and curriculum of the Autism Specialty classroom to staff, parents, and community partners.
• Develop and monitor IEPs aligned with ASOL and student goals with data-based interventions.
• Provide differentiated instruction for functional academics, daily living skills, and social/communication skills.
• Lead and train instructional assistants and coordinate with related service personnel.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local mandates for special education services.
