Job Title: Special Education Teacher – Grades 1-4

Salary Range: $59,871 - $80,821 (Depending on experience; stipend of an additional $10,000)

Reports To: Head of School and Vice Principal

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small-group instruction tailored to students' unique needs, strengths, and learning styles.
  • Uses the TECCS curriculum to promote active learning and meet the academic goals and objectives of the school.
  • Creates and implements essential questions for unit, chapter, and lesson plans to effectively guide student learning.
  • Plans and delivers age-appropriate class activities and lessons that address the academic, social, and emotional needs of students in grades 1-4.
  • Integrates ethical connections and promotes civic responsibility by incorporating at least one Civic Literacy Project or Community Service Project annually.
Instruction & Student Progress
  • Monitors and tracks student academic progress and personal growth toward meeting educational objectives.
  • Maintains comprehensive records of student progress and submits regular reports on achievements, areas of growth, and needs.
  • Identifies individual student needs and adapts instruction to address learning challenges.
  • Establishes and upholds classroom behavior standards to create a positive, ethical learning environment.
  • Develops assessments that encourage critical thinking, self-reflection, and student engagement.
Parent and Community Engagement
  • Communicates regularly with parents via email, phone, and conferences to discuss student progress and school initiatives.
  • Collaborates with community resources and parent volunteers to enrich the classroom experience and extend learning opportunities beyond the school walls.
Collaboration & Professional Development
  • Collaborates with other teachers, staff, and support personnel to address student learning needs and develop instructional strategies.
  • Pursues ongoing professional development opportunities to improve teaching skills and maintain current knowledge in the field of special education.
  • Actively participates in school-wide planning, faculty meetings, and committees, sharing insights and resources with colleagues.
  • Incorporates feedback and suggestions from Professors-in-Residence to enhance instructional methods.
Supervision
  • Supervises students in and outside the classroom, ensuring safety and engagement.
  • Provides guidance to student teachers, classroom aides, and interns when assigned.
Other Responsibilities
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
  • Education Level: Bachelor’s degree (BA) or higher in Special Education or related field.
  • Certifications & Licenses: Must hold or be in the process of obtaining necessary certifications for Special Education in the State of New Jersey.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Priority will be given to candidates who hold or are actively pursuing a certification in Special Education.
