Job summary

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• One year of professional experience in a school setting.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR within 3 months.
• Licensure: Collegiate Professional License, or provisional license with the Virginia Department of Education within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Establishes and maintains a therapeutic/pro-social learning environment.
• Completes progress documentation such as report cards, assessments and IEP progress reports for parents and the local education agency.
• Plans and implements developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans and therapeutic teaching strategies aligned with IEP goals and Virginia Standards of Learning.

Inova Kellar Center Day School is seeking a passionate and experienced Special Education Teacher to join our team. We are specifically looking for a teacher to work with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder who are on the SOL track for their diploma. This full-time position offers a Monday–Friday day shift schedule (7:45 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.), providing a stable and supportive work environment where you can make a meaningful impact every day.

The Special Education Teacher establishes and maintains a therapeutic/pro-social learning environment while monitoring, reviewing, and revising individual education plans (IEP) as needed. Completes progress documentation such as report cards, assessments and IEP progress reports for parents and the local education agency. Participates in staff/committee meetings in addition to planning and implementing developmentally appropriate daily lesson plans and therapeutic teaching strategies consistent with IEP goals, objectives, transition plans and the Virginia Standards of Learning is of vital importance. Provides assessments, planning, treatments, interventions, and evaluations to patients with addictions. Engages students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification - Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation within 3 months
• Licensure - Collegiate Professional License, or Postgraduate professional license or provisional license with the Department of Education, Commonwealth of Virginia, within 6 months
• Experience - One year of professional experience in a school setting.
• Education - Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with students with autism spectrum disorder
• Experience teaching Science or English
