The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide, or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500.

The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.

The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 million levy for special education, a 0.2 million levy for general operations, and 1.0 million levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students.

Purpose of Position

Develop and provide specially designed instruction to eligible students.

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with special education certification (SE preferred)
• Knowledgeable regarding the use of positive behavior supports and inclusion strategies
• Possess competency in teaching of academic and social-emotional skills to school aged populations
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative manner with parents and professionals
• Proficient with use of the technology to include internet-based applications, Google forms, spreadsheets and databases
• Skill in oral and written communications
• Must have regular and reliable attendance
• Professional tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers, students, parents, and the community

Duties and Responsibilities

• Communicate results of assessment, classroom observations and teaching strategies to IEP team
• Prepare draft IEP and attend all IEPT meetings for students assigned with particular attention to ensuring educational benefit via skill-based goals and progress monitoring
• Responsible for the implementation of specially designed instruction for each student assigned, develop student performance objectives and maintain documentation such that instructional methods are consistent with the IEP
• Facilitate Functional Behavioral Assessments and assist in writing positive support plans for students with significant in-school behavioral problems
• Implement standard assessment, progress monitoring and recordkeeping procedures for each student to include student information systems and monthly Medicaid billing
• Maintain all necessary recordkeeping procedures for the student's IEP, lesson plans, attendance records, classroom equipment and supplies inventories, behavioral data, etc. and provide documentation as requested by supervisor(s)
• Provide direction and supervision for instructional aides assigned to the classroom and participate directly in their job performance evaluations with the staff supervisor. Assist in day-to-day training of instructional aides
• Maintain ongoing communication and positive working relationship with parent(s)/guardian(s), community agencies and ISD/LEA staff
• Coordinate classroom staff meetings and actively participate in assigned School Improvement activities
• Maintain high degree of confidentiality in program operation and with student/staff information
• As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours and travel within ISD and state
• Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times
• Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor
