Summary: Under the guidance of the building Principal and the Director of Student Services and MTSS, District 29 is seeking a dynamic and flexible individual to work collaboratively in the role of Special Education Instructional Teacher, serving intermediate and middle grades (4th-6th) for the 25-26 school year.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practice in the area of special education service delivery
- Effectively work with students across a range of disabilities (i.e. Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, Intellectual Disability)
- Provide individualized instruction that aligns with students' identified goals and objectives as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) on a daily basis
- Develop Individualized Education Programs for students in intermediate and middle grades, in alignment with identified areas of need
- Address embedded skills for all students including areas of communication, functional academics, sensory-motor, and social emotional skills
- Develop and maintain individual student and assistant schedules across multiple grade levels
- Collaborate with general education teachers in order to identify and support opportunities for meaningful inclusion
- Provide systematic and proactive behavior supports for all students on caseload
- Co-plan and co-teach with related service staff and TrueNorth staff to address student goals and objectives
- Collect regular benchmark and progress monitoring data and use that data to inform instruction
- Develop positive relationships with parents to involve them in individual education plan development and provide written feedback to them related to a student's progress toward their identified goals and objectives
- Utilize best practices for the application of assistive technology aligned with student needs
- Provide direction to, and work collaboratively with, paraprofessional educators in the classroom
- Support activities of daily living, including toileting and other self care
- Attend faculty meetings and other team or school-wide meetings, as appropriate
- Participate in professional development opportunities and remain current on educational research and best practices
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable, and willingness to explore and implement new strategies to support student learning
- Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by building or district Administrators
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Illinois Professional Educator License, Learning Behavior Specialist
- Previous experience teaching in the area of elementary or middle school special education
- Sensitivity to intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of students
- Excellent verbal, written communication skills and strong organizational and management skills
- Experience with students who utilize AAC, preferred
- Experience with research based, direct instruction interventions
- Experience with a structured teaching classroom environment, preferred
- High level of flexibility and willingness to support multiple grade levels where needs arise
- Belief in each child’s individual’s ability and potential to learn and succeed
