Summary: Under the guidance of the building Principal and the Director of Student Services and MTSS, District 29 is seeking a dynamic and flexible individual to work collaboratively in the role of Special Education Instructional Teacher, serving intermediate and middle grades (4th-6th) for the 25-26 school year.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of best practice in the area of special education service delivery
  2. Effectively work with students across a range of disabilities (i.e. Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Other Health Impairment, Intellectual Disability)
  3. Provide individualized instruction that aligns with students' identified goals and objectives as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) on a daily basis
  4. Develop Individualized Education Programs for students in intermediate and middle grades, in alignment with identified areas of need
  5. Address embedded skills for all students including areas of communication, functional academics, sensory-motor, and social emotional skills
  6. Develop and maintain individual student and assistant schedules across multiple grade levels
  7. Collaborate with general education teachers in order to identify and support opportunities for meaningful inclusion
  8. Provide systematic and proactive behavior supports for all students on caseload
  9. Co-plan and co-teach with related service staff and TrueNorth staff to address student goals and objectives
  10. Collect regular benchmark and progress monitoring data and use that data to inform instruction
  11. Develop positive relationships with parents to involve them in individual education plan development and provide written feedback to them related to a student's progress toward their identified goals and objectives
  12. Utilize best practices for the application of assistive technology aligned with student needs
  13. Provide direction to, and work collaboratively with, paraprofessional educators in the classroom
  14. Support activities of daily living, including toileting and other self care
  15. Attend faculty meetings and other team or school-wide meetings, as appropriate
  16. Participate in professional development opportunities and remain current on educational research and best practices
  17. Ability to be flexible and adaptable, and willingness to explore and implement new strategies to support student learning
  18. Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by building or district Administrators

Qualifications and Competencies:

  1. Illinois Professional Educator License, Learning Behavior Specialist
  2. Previous experience teaching in the area of elementary or middle school special education
  3. Sensitivity to intellectual, physical, and emotional needs of students
  4. Excellent verbal, written communication skills and strong organizational and management skills
  5. Experience with students who utilize AAC, preferred
  6. Experience with research based, direct instruction interventions
  7. Experience with a structured teaching classroom environment, preferred
  8. High level of flexibility and willingness to support multiple grade levels where needs arise
  9. Belief in each child’s individual’s ability and potential to learn and succeed
