Under general supervision, creates a classroom environment that is positive, safe and student‑centered. Utilizes effective teaching strategies to advance student achievement. Uses a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning, shape instruction and provide meaningful educational experiences. Works with students and parents effectively and with care. Reports to the school principal.
ABachelor's Degree or higher. South Carolina Teacher's Certificate with the appropriate endorsement. Must be able to effectively teach and communicate with students, staff and parents. Must demonstrate a passion for teaching and learning.
Knowledge of policies, procedures and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position; knowledge of methods for developing lesson plans, selecting instructional materials and classroom activities which stimulate inquiry and curiosity in the learner; knowledge of records, forms and reports that must be prepared and maintained; knowledge of proper maintenance of equipment, materials and supplies used in daily activities; knowledge of counseling methods necessary for handling student academic and behavioral problems.
Ability to provide instruction to students through explanation, demonstration and/or supervised practice; ability to supervise students and maintain order; ability to operate general office equipment; ability to prepare lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials; ability to identify student behavior and/or academic problems, provide counseling and/or recommend remedial action; ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, district staff, and other groups. Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
Classroom environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions; physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting/moving items up to ten pounds; occasional local travel required; occasional overnight travel may be required.
