Darien Public Schools District #61 is seeking a Special Education Teacher for grades 3-5 at Lace Elementary School. The Licensed teacher will develop and provide specialized instruction for students with disabilities, manage IEPs, and ensure state procedures are followed under supervision of the principal and director of special education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research-based instruction aligned to each student’s IEP goals.
  • Assess student progress and adjust reinforcement or instructional techniques as needed.
  • Develop and implement annual IEPs including present levels, needs, goals, and services.
  • Schedule team meetings and collaborate with child study team to set goals and strategies.
  • Coordinate delivery of special education services per each student’s IEP.
  • Create a positive, individualized learning environment using appropriate sources (including iPads).
  • Conduct special education evaluations and reevaluations as required.
  • Supervise and evaluate educational assistants as directed.
  • Meet and instruct classes at designated times and locations.
  • Plan a program of study that meets individual student needs and interests.

Special Education Teacher for Grade Levels 3-5

LOCATION: Lace Elementary School

QUALIFICATIONS: IL Professional Educator License(PEL) with proper endorsement required and registered in DuPage County

REPORTS TO: Principal

SUPERVISES: Teacher aide(s) assigned.

JOB GOAL: Under the direction of the Building Principal and Director of Special Education, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandated due process procedures and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.
  • Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads.
  • Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
  • Meets and instructs classes in the locations and at the time designated.
  • Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
  • Accepts such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned.

Terms Of Employment

  • Ten-month year.

  • Contractual salary and benefits as established by the Agreement between the Board of Education-Darien Public Schools Dist #61 and Darien Education Assoc.
