Job summary

Area Cooperative Educational Services (ACES) seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher for Ansonia Middle School in Ansonia, CT. The role supports grades 6-8 and emphasizes an integrated, technology-enhanced curriculum with emphasis on social-emotional learning.

The successful candidate will hold CT certification in special education or be eligible for DSAP, and will participate in PPTs, assessments, and collaboration with families and community resources to promote student growth and safety.

Qualifications

• Connecticut teacher certification in special education required.
• DSAP eligibility considered for candidates enrolled in a Special Education Teacher preparation program.
• Experience with standards-based instruction and reporting.
• Ability to facilitate reading, writing, and mathematics.

Responsibilities

Salary Range: $59,981.00 - $80,015.00 Salary/year

Special Education Teacher needed for ACES at Ansonia Middle School, Ansonia, CT. The ACES AMS Program serves students in grades 6-8.

Our program seeks to;

• provide a challenging, diverse learning environment which meets the individual and diverse needs of each student with special needs.
• to create an integrated curriculum which maximizes the use of technology and social-emotional learning in order to communicate effectively;
• to encourage partnerships with families and community resources for the purpose of enriching the educational programs
• to ensure a safe school environment through developing, implementing, and communicating clear expectations and guidelines for safety procedures; and
• to support students through graduation with academic and social-emotional needs

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

Communication

• Encourages communication to create a positive working and learning environment
• Consults with members of the school community, parents and community agencies, demonstrating oral and written communication skills in an effective and responsible manner

Management

• Assists with the orderly scheduling and implementation of a transdisciplinary program
• Organizes time, space, materials, equipment and personnel for effective instruction and/or project completion
• Develops and/or implements appropriate behavior management strategies

Planning

• Plans instruction to achieve objectives
• Develops and monitors behavioral objectives to meet learners' needs

Professional Responsibilities

• Participates in PPTs, conferences, meetings and other activities, as assigned
• Participates in activities for self-growth, evaluation, and on-going professional improvement
• Supports program and agency goals and acts as an advocate for students, including the maintenance of confidentiality
• Submits required reports in a timely manner, including child reporting forms

Instruction

• Varies instructional materials, activities and techniques including technological advances, as appropriate
• Enhances student learning with resources and experiences from other educational and community agencies
• Demonstrates data collection techniques for improved instructional decision making

Qualifications

Connecticut teacher certification in special education required. Will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in a Special Education Teacher preparation program and are eligible for a Durational Shortage Area Permit (DSAP).

Other Qualifications:

• Demonstrates knowledge and application of the facilitation of reading, writing, and mathematics
• Demonstrates knowledge of standards based instruction and reporting
• Establishes and maintains an environment conducive to learning with groups and individuals

Assessment

• Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to use current and/or appropriate assessment instruments and practices
• Develops clear and specific written documentation of assessment results
• Participates in the on-going evaluation of students
• Maintains on-going assessment of learner progress through written documentation
