Job summary

TheraPeds Partners in Sterling, AK is seeking a full-time, on-site Special Education Teacher to provide SPED instruction and case management for grades 7-8 in a school setting.

Job Description And Responsibilities

This is a full-time, on-site role as a Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Sterling, AK.

The Special Education Teacher (SPED) will be responsible for providing teaching and case management services to students, conducting assessments, developing IEP plans, evaluating progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.

Job Details
  • Full-time school-based opportunity with a 37.5-hour weekly schedule
  • 2026-2027 academic year (August 2026 through May/June 2027)
  • Fully on-site, in-person position serving students in grades 7-8
  • Deliver specialized educational instruction while supporting student achievement through individualized learning plans and collaborative intervention strategies
  • Conduct educational assessments, contribute to eligibility determinations, monitor student progress, and maintain assigned case management responsibilities
  • Partner with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and monitor student IEPs and instructional supports
  • Guaranteed paid hours include direct student services, documentation, planning, meetings, and administrative responsibilities
  • Ongoing collaboration and professional support provided by both the partnering school district and the TheraPeds Partners team
  • Supportive work environment with manageable caseloads and opportunities for professional growth
  • $50-$60+ per hour, with estimated weekly earnings of approximately $1,875-$2,250+
Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities
  • Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students
  • Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support
  • Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress to inform ongoing instruction and planning
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning
  • Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs
Requirements
  • Teaching Certification, Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher in Special Education
  • State License as as SPED teacher
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearanceAbility to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications
Physical Requirements

Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
